I’ve finally finalized my entry for the Oldhammer Legacy 2015 warband. Nothing fancy, a little female dwarf warrior from Asgard’s old Dwarf Warrior range. Sculpted by Jes Goodwin, unless I’m mistaken. They are still available from The Viking Forge and I can heartily recommend the range. Quality sculpts that sit comfortably next to most dwarf models. They’re even a little on the large side. Definitely heroic 28.

Asgard Miniatures - Shieldmaiden

Asgard Miniatures – Shieldmaiden

Not much to say really, I’ve followed the restrictions on palette as given in the thread. As a first for me, I painted gems. Never tried that before. I really liked how the one on the “backside” of the hilt (top right) turned out. The other ones are fine for a first attempt but don’t look very convincing.

Onwards and upwards, here’s to a brand new year and let’s hope it’ll be a productive one. I’m getting a new baby in March so chances are I won’t get much done at all hobby-wise. The theme of this year is “cleaning out the closet”, so I’ll be revisiting stuff stuck in limbo or primed hell. That means, I’ll start working on my two final commission models again soon. Yay. Never again – I feel horrible for letting the client wait so long.

Short Willy and Nimbleroot the Unfortunate is a pair of adventurers currently working for Konstipah Ted in his endeavours to clean out the dungeons below Nost-Óul Towers. For some reason, these guys just can’t seem to catch a break – but they are always lucky enough to escape with their lives intact. Most recently, they had a run in with old Fatgit Rumblegut.

“Hurry up with that lockpick!”

The miniatures were painted early 2012, for the first round of the LPL. I haven’t gotten around to posting these profiles until now though. There are no lengthy bios for these guys, as they are minor characters. I think their names, profiles and looks speak for themselves. Willy is a Perry twins dwarf (Citadel) while Nimbleroot is a wood elf wardancer by Jes Goodwin (also Citadel).

Short Willy – Dwarf Warrior (26 pts) Quality 3+, Combat 3. Coward.

The shield is sort of a stylized dwarf face, but Willy (being Willy) is holding it upside down so instead of a beard it turned into an afro. It didn’t turn out very well, I’m afraid.

Nimbleroot the Unfortunate – Elf Thief (33 pts) Quality 2+, Combat 3. Stealth, Blundering.

A new special rule for Nimbleroot. I’m hoping it’ll work well in games, but who knows – I might change it a bit.

Blundering (-5 pts)
A Blundering model will fall over when rolling two or more failed activation dice.

I’ve finally finished up this little warband of chaotic barbarians, sculpted by Jes Goodwin for Asgard in the mid 80s and released as a box set called “Barbarian Personalities“. They are now being manufactured and sold by Alternative Armies and are quite a bargain. The ogre is another Goodwin sculpt, from Citadel’s C23 range. The astute reader will remember when I posted about receiving these guys. I’m very happy to have them finished the same year I got them! They were all painted by Paul “v2″ Sanderson, and a great job he did! I can not recommend the man enough. Fast, well painted, very communicative and all round top bloke! I finished the bases and took the photos, but that’s about all I did.

Here’s the roster for the whole happy gang! I’ve used their names as given by Asgard, and tried to make all models individual stats wise. It’ll be a challenging warband to play, due to them being all different.

Kern the Reaver (60 pts). Q3, C3. Leader

Clonar Sternbrow
(27 pts). Q4, C3. Group fighter

Alaric Mancleaver (30 pts). Q4, C4.

Koth Beasthelm (35 pts). Q4, C4. Savage

Hax Ragged (35 pts). Q4, C4. Heavy armour

Taran Firedaughter (38 pts). Q3, C3. Berserk

Will Skegling (30 pts). Q3, C3.

Mad Rollo (23 pts). Q4, C3.

Arflane the Archer (44 pts). Q3, C3. Shooter: long

Aurok Storrirkin (46 pts). Q3, C4. Steadfast

Skai Wolfbane (36 pts). Q3, C3. Forrester

Two Cuts
(36 pts). Q3, C3. Stealth

Old One-Horn (54 pts). Q4, C4. Big, Long move, Mutant.

Once again I feel the need to apologize for my photos. I still haven’t gotten to grips with the new camera, and struggle with both lighting and focus. Oh well, in time I think they’ll shape up.

These guys really help my annual total, which is now 84 painted – 254 acquired = -170! I did receive a few snotlings the other day (cheers Ti!), but I’m not including them in the annual total as they’re crew for the pump wagon which is in itself one model only. I also traded some snotlings away, so I guess it all evens out.

This is one of the characters I painted up for the LPL in early 2012. I promised to do individual write-ups and the only thing missing for quite some time now have been photos. I finally had some time today to take a few pics. I’ll post the other guys over the next few days.

Willhelm Ratzenwurst – Human Knight (30 pts)
Quality 3+, Combat 3. Heavy Armour, Unruly.
Sir Willhelm Ratzenwurst is a knight-errant of questionable skill. Granted, he slew the (alledgedly) Great Scourge of Talabec, but in all honesty that was little more than an average sized boar with an exceptionally foul temper. His most recent adventure saw him lose both squire, horse and distraught damsel to the sulphurous wrath of Katarax, the elder dragon Greenleaf Peaks. He travelled by boat along the river Aver to Averridge where he then went north to seek gold and fame in the ruins of the temple of Gadd. After a near death experience, he retreated to Stillburg in search of mercenary work as he is now completely and utterly impovered.

The model is (still) Citadel Lord of Battle, sculpted by Jes Goodwin. Here’s a photo of him staving off some undead in the Barrowhills north of Averridge.

This model was my entry for the Golden Gobbos painting competition over at the BLOOD forums. Each entry had to include a back story and game rules for the character submitted. Here’s mine, with extra cheese!

Helmut and canine compadres

Deep in the forests of the northern parts of The Riding, a terrible warrior is rumoured to harry the roads. He is said to have scores of wolves at his command, aiding him in his quest for reckless destruction and death. His name is Helmut Wulverskin, and he is in fact a rather wealthy albeit confused man.

As the only heir of merchant Knut Wulverskin (of the Averridge Wulverskins), Helmut was destined for greatness. Alas, destiny did not count on Helmut’s uncle Kurt Wulverskin and his ambition for riches. A dark and stormy night, hired thugs burst into the sleeping quarters of Knut Wulverskin and assassinated the merchant and his wife. Helmut was rescued though, as the infant boy was carried off to safety by his mother’s wolf familiar.

Helmut was raised by a wolfpack deep in the dark forests surrounding Stillburg. For the next 10 years he had no human contact. That changed when a wizened old crone, who would talk to the beasts in their own tongue, visited the pack. She took the boy under her wings and regularily visited, to teach him in the ways of man.

From her, he learned of his true heritage and swore to seek vengeance on the great injustice wrought on him and his family. As a young man, after a decade of training, he set out on a quest for revenge. His first stop was Averridge and the estate of good old uncle Kurt. Apart from gruesome vengeance being exacted, Helmut learned the name and location of the actual perpetrator of the murders. He also recovered his father’s plate armour and old warhammer. The suit of armour includes a magic wolf-pelt, giving command over animals, further enhancing Helmut’s already unnaturally strong bond with his lupine brethren.

The murderer of Helmut’s parents had risen to power, as a favoured champion of the Chaos god Tzeentch. After the fierce battle that ultimately lead to Helmut avenging his parents, Helmut was so badly injured that he very nearly died. He never recovered, and probably suffered one too many blows to his head, as he is still stamping out evil and servants of Chaos where ever he can find them. It’s just a pity that he so often finds them amongst small children on school excursions, in merchant caravans or pilgrimages to and from the Shrine of Gadd.

His estate stands unattended in Averridge, and he was most recently spotted heading for Badwater north of Stillburg talking to himself about a gang of chaos worshippers who had attacked a peaceful envoy from Nippon.

Helmut Wulverskin – Level 10 Human Hero (80 pts)
Helmut is armed with a double-handed weapon and is wearing heavy armour. He is Neutral and hate chaotic and evil

While an accomplished fighter Helmut isn’t a very dependable ally. Roll a D6 each turn. On a 1, he is overcome by delusions and control of Helmut and his unit passes to the GM for the rest of the game. Helmut must charge and attack the nearest non-animal unit with gusto, as he has seen the taint of chaos on their poor souls.

Helmut can only be included in warbands and armies containing no Evil or Chaotic units.

When deploying Helmut, he is deployed together with 1D6+2 of his pack mates (counts as regular Giant Wolves, but with Helmut as animal handler and no riders).

Stats for Song of Blades & Heroes

Helmut Wulverskin – Human Knight. 39 pts. Q4+, C4. Beastmaster, Animal Handler, Insane.
Special rules: When including Helmut Wulverskin in a warband, a Wolf (Q4, C3, Animal) may be included for free. For victory points calculations, this wolf is worth 19 points but does not count against the grand total value of the warband.

Insane (-5 pts):
After rolling activation dice for an Insane model, also roll 1D6.  On a roll of 1, control of the model is temporarily given to the controlling player’s opponent who decide how to use any successful activations . The Insane model is overcome by delusions, and turn on his allies. Control of the model is then relinquished by the opponent and returns to the original controller.

Adding Helmut to my total annual tally: 71 painted – 254 acquired = -183. Next up, a chaotic barbarian warband! Prepare to be boosted, annual total!
