I finally managed to dislodge my thumb from my arse and got on with painting this dwarf for an online buddy with whom I traded painting service for lead.

It’s yet another dwarf adventurer by the Perry brothers, so old vintage Citadel. I really struggled with getting started on this guy but once I got dug in it nearly painted itself. I must say I’m really happy with how it turned out and I’m a bit sad to see it go.

I said this would be my last commission piece I paint for someone, but I’m afraid I might get suckered in again with another possible offer of some desirable lead. Sheesh, I’m like a magpie with lead. Just can’t say no.

Here’s a photo of the guy above together with his mate, fighting off a few vicious tomb guardians.

I’ve painted another model for the I’ve never painted a… before club over on the Oldhammer forums. Actually, I painted three – but here’s the first one of three war apes.

I’ve had these guys for yonks, and always liked the sculpt but abhorred the original paintjob. I have a tray of DDM prepaints that I’ve rebased and I’m going to repaint at some point or other. These guys were on it. Now they’re painted, in the cupboard, with only a few measly hours on them all in all. The paintjob was very quick; it’s just a base coat that have been drybrushed up and washed over with a final highlighting drybrush on top of that. Still looks so much better than the original.

As I mentioned, I did two more. Here’s a shot of all three. I went with slightly different base coats and highlights on each, since they’re already identically posed. As you’ll see in my coming posts, these guys will fit just as well in a fantasy setting as in a scifi game.

I’ve finally finalized my entry for the Oldhammer Legacy 2015 warband. Nothing fancy, a little female dwarf warrior from Asgard’s old Dwarf Warrior range. Sculpted by Jes Goodwin, unless I’m mistaken. They are still available from The Viking Forge and I can heartily recommend the range. Quality sculpts that sit comfortably next to most dwarf models. They’re even a little on the large side. Definitely heroic 28.

Not much to say really, I’ve followed the restrictions on palette as given in the thread. As a first for me, I painted gems. Never tried that before. I really liked how the one on the “backside” of the hilt (top right) turned out. The other ones are fine for a first attempt but don’t look very convincing.

Onwards and upwards, here’s to a brand new year and let’s hope it’ll be a productive one. I’m getting a new baby in March so chances are I won’t get much done at all hobby-wise. The theme of this year is “cleaning out the closet”, so I’ll be revisiting stuff stuck in limbo or primed hell. That means, I’ll start working on my two final commission models again soon. Yay. Never again – I feel horrible for letting the client wait so long.

Oops, almost missed the window for a post in September. Can’t have that! The summer have been very low on hobby activity. Here’s a model I painted quite a while ago but haven’t got around to post up here.

It’s a classic 80s Citadel dwarf that I’ve painted for a friend – who most likely hates my guts for not painting faster! I still have another to do, still half painted – and I think it’s more than a year (if not two) since I got these from him to paint. I’m a bit ashamed, to be honest. “Can’t hurry genius” he said. Well, you obviously can’t hurry lazy louts either. I am genuinely sorry for the time this have been taking me, Adam!

I painted these for a painting challenge on the Oldhammer Forums. My participation fizzled, but at least I finished three orcs. They’re originally C1039 hobgoblins from Metal Magic, but I wanted to use them as orcs. Nice models and a joy to paint! They are currently available from Midlam Miniatures.

I have three more primed and good to go. Hopefully it won’t be too long until they’re painted, but they’re probably not coming near a brush this year as I’m all about them science fictions. I’m thinking next year will be cleanup-themed as my “half painted and/or primed” shelf in the cupboard is currently overflowing.
